Planning for the Peaks: Valentine's, Women's Day and Mother's Day

The three big flower peaks are won or lost months in advance. A planning guide for booking volume, colour and grades ahead.

Planning for the Peaks: Valentine's, Women's Day and Mother's Day

The three great flower holidays — Valentine's Day, International Women's Day and Mother's Day — are not won in February, March or May. They are won months earlier, in the bookings.

Why the peaks reward planning

Demand around the peaks spikes far faster than supply can. Farms plant to a calendar, and the best grades and colours are committed to buyers who booked early. Come to the market late and you are choosing from what is left, at the price the shortage sets.

What to lock in, and when

  • Volume: commit your peak quantities well ahead — for Valentine's, that means the previous autumn.
  • Colour and grade: red dominates Valentine's, soft pastels and pinks carry Mother's Day; reserve the head sizes and stem lengths you need before they are gone.
  • Logistics: airfreight capacity tightens around the peaks too — a booked program includes the freight, not just the flowers.

The value of a partner who plans with you

A single-partner model pays off most exactly here. When your supplier knows your peak program in advance, they can spread it across the origins and farms best placed to deliver it, protect your grades when supply gets tight, and keep your landed cost predictable through the most volatile weeks of the year.

Every buyer who has been through a Valentine's peak understands the difference between a booked program and a scramble. Let's plan your next peak together.
